Resilience: Articulating Dance ‘Knowledges’ in the C21st

Advance information of the DanceHE Annual Symposium, hosted by De Montfort University 9th April 2015.

Resilience: Articulating Dance ‘Knowledges’in the C21st.

This one-day event for DanceHE members, researchers, artists and collaborative partners, is an opportunity to share our resourcefulness in identifying new strategies to sustain and enhance dance in the UK higher education sector.

Together we face many challenges in teaching and research in dance, in supporting the experience of learners, the content of future curricula, and the value of dance as a discipline and inter-discipline. We ask what are the emerging opportunities and challenges for dance in higher education and what priorities need to be addressed for dance to flourish in the C21st.

The event celebrates the broadening identity and impact of dance as a discipline in higher education and the cultural economy more broadly. The aim of the symposium is to enhance awareness of diverse dance practices and cultures and to realise the values inherent in working together.

The day will include keynote presentations and opportunities to share in a debate  of the intelligent, creative and meaningful action that is dance.

“In place of curiosity, what we have is a culture of compliance” (Ken Robinson).

How might dance / how does dance resist a culture of compliance?
