DanceEast, Jerwood DanceHouse, Ipswich, Suffolk, England
Thursday 25 to Sunday 28 August 2016
DanceEast has been providing Rural Retreats for existing and aspiring dance leaders since 2003. Participants have included the Artistic Directors of the world’s leading dance companies and professional training schools, and aspiring leaders who have since taken up dance leadership roles. Between 25 and 28 August 2016, DanceEast will be holding the first ever Young Rural Retreat for up to 21 young people aged 18 to 21 who are ambitious to be dance leaders of the future.
Previous Rural Retreats participants have nominated young potential leaders from Canada, Denmark, The Netherlands and the UK, and applications are now invited for the last few places.
Young Rural Retreat will take place at DanceEast’s purpose-built home, the Jerwood DanceHouse, on Ipswich’s waterfront. It be led by Christopher Hampson, Chief Executive and Artistic Director of Scottish Ballet and the Company’s Associate Director (Education) Catherine Cassidy. Christopher has participated in previous Rural Retreats for aspiring and existing dance leaders, and as a speaker.
Each day will start with a short class or warm-up. There will be time to listen and reflect, to discuss and discover different ideas, to work with people with shared passions from different backgrounds and different parts of the world, and to make new friends. Speakers will include leaders from dance and other sectors.
Accommodation will be at the iconic Royal Hospital School just outside Ipswich, and most of the costs of accommodation, catering and transport between the School and DanceEast will be covered by DanceEast. Participants will be responsible for their own travel to and from Ipswich, and to make a small contribution of £50 (inclusive of VAT).
