Since November 2011 Free to Fall as been supporting dance and contemporary artists with the creative development of their work. Their unique Scratch nights have become known for creating an open and welcome environment, for both dance makers and non-dancers, alongside providing the performing artists with the structured feedback and support needed to continue developing their work.
In 2013 Free to Fall became an Artists and Producers Development Programme, enabling them to provide selected scratch artists with a deeper and more progressive developmental experience. These artists received a tailored mentoring and support programme which, included an international exchange, studio time, performance opportunities and a producer.
2014 Call For Artists:
The call is particularly open to dance artists, choreographers, physical theatre makers and contemporary artists who work with performative or movement related contexts and ideas.
This can also include or be in collaboration with other disciplines e.g. musicians, photographers, film makers, and visual artists.
Free to Fall Scratch 2014 will be taking place at their regular home, Rich Mix in East London but will now also take place at Greenwich Dance in South London and other venues across London and the UK. This exciting development helps provide more opportunities for contemporary artists to show their work and discuss their ideas through the Free to Fall forum.
This year there are 3 main categories of application:
1. New ideas, works in progress or work at an early stage of development.
We strongly encourage scratch artists to submit work at its earliest stage to benefit from audience and peer feedback.
2. More developed work that may or may not been performed already.
This year Free to Fall is looking to programme artists with more developed pieces of work that need an opportunity to be seen by new audiences, supported creatively or practically and encouraged to keep on doing what their doing.
3. Visual Installation/Performance Work – Gallery based
We encourage work that has a more visual arts element and site specific or experimental performances that would suit a gallery space rather than a theatre setting, to be submitted this year.
Please visit the website to view the details of each category and submit an application.
Application Deadline: Saturday February 15th 2014 5pm
