Screendance Workshop Opportunity 2016

20th and 21st March 10am – 5pm

Dance Base Grassmarket Edinburgh Scotland

£20 plus booking fee

A 2-day intensive workshop exploring the creative interface between improvised dance & video lead by award-winning artist Katrina McPherson.

Through guided exercises, the group will discover ways in which improvisation can be used to generate video dance material. Camera techniques will be introduced that capture the spontaneity of improvised dance performance, informed by the dynamic requirements of editing. Participants should have basic technical knowledge, bring a camera and/or laptop for editing and be prepared to move.

This is a rare opportunity to attend a masterclass by one of the first generation of truly hybrid screendance artists and author of the practical guide to creating dance for the screen ‘Making Video Dance’ (Routledge, 2006). Katrina’s aim as facilitator is to seek a perfect balance between teaching, experimentation, enquiry and support. She has taught workshops all over the world, including in China, Canada, Germany, Australia and the USA.

A number of travel bursaries are available for Scottish-based participants travelling further than 50 miles)
