The second , part of the renowned , is screening its finalists on 11 November, followed by a panel discussion delving into the work and context of screendance today.
The screening features ten films from seven different countries, selected from an open call for submissions by a specialist shortlisting panel. The overall prize winner will be selected by an international jury which comprises Leonel Brum (dança em foco, Brazil), Dr Liz Aggiss (performer/filmmaker, UK) and Marisa C. Hayes (Festival International de Vidéo Danse de Bourgogne, France), and announced after the screening.
Led by filmmaker Andy Wood, and developed in partnership with , the project is building a focal point for dance film in the UK. The screening and competition are a landmark moment: Leeds International Film Festival is known for its strong curatorial signature, and is one of only two festivals in the UK accepted as a qualifying event for the BAFTAs and Oscars.
The evening presents a range of contrasting approaches to screendance, from the mesmeric to the startlingly absurd.
